Lynn Graham

LGraham PhotoLike so many others, I am not a California native. Born and raised on the East coast, I was transformed at the age of 30 when I moved to the Bay Area. Amazed by the natural beauty and creativity flowing around me, I left my paralegal job and enrolled in the Academy of Art in San Francisco. I took my first stained glass class and was immediately hooked on glass. After moving to Philadelphia with my husband in 1995, I finished my BFA studies at the University of the Arts, where I was fortunate enough to study with Judith Schaecter, Roland Jahn and Lucartha Kohler. I was thrilled to discover fused glass, which freed up my designs from any lead lines.

After moving to sunny San Diego in 2002, I initially worked again as a full-time paralegal for several years. I was finally able to leave the profession for good in 2005 and have not looked back. I now have my own glass studio and am a juried retail member of the Art Glass Guild in the Spanish Village Art Center in Balboa Park (Studio 25).

MY WORK

My fused art glass designs are inspired by desert plants, aquatic life, and exotic butterflies. My backgrounds are created by sifting multiple layers of glass powders onto a clear glass base, which is fired in the kiln. My cut glass shapes are then fused onto the piece in a second firing. The final layer is created by adding frit and glass stringers which I have twisted over an open flame. Fusing each layer at a different temperature creates varying levels of depth and dimension in my pieces.

I hope my work captures some of the beauty and wonder that exist all around us.
